Events for 2011-2012

In order to keep our services affordable for our folks and their families, Disability Resources Incorporated relies on special event fundraisers throughout the year. From a golf tournament, to hunting events, live concerts, and a pumpkin patch, DRI has events for young, old and everyone in between. Funds raised from our special events help support our wide range of services, therapies and other opportunities for the care and general well-being of our folks. DRI is so grateful for the faithful support of our donors and sponsors.

The DRI lawn is decorated with props, swings, hay bales and thousands of pumpkins. The pumpkins come in all sizes…from small pie pumpkins to huge 80 pound pumpkins. School groups and children of all ages come out to our campus to take part in the free hayrides around the campus, enjoy story time, purchase their pumpkins, and take pictures. Last year, over 10,000 people visited during the month to purchase their fall pumpkins and take advantage of the wonderful photo opportunities. The patch is open to the public daily. In 1987, a small group of DRI supporters and parents of DRI residents, headed up by Mae and Presley Orsburn, began this very successful fundraiser for DRI. At the upcoming dinner we will honor the dedication and hard work of Mae and Presley, along with the other founders, who have played a major role in the event’s success for all of the 25 years. In addition to celebrating the generosity of these faithful supporters, the elegant evening will include a wonderful meal, quilt raffle, and a silent auction.

  • Plano Dinner
Jordan Francis was just a high school student at Prestonwood Christian Academy in Plano, Texas when her class visited DRI during Spring Break. She was so moved with the work that we are doing at Disability Resources, that she wanted to do something to help. Four years ago the Annual Plano Dinner was born. This casual barbecue dinner is planned and sponsored by Jordan and her family. Over 200 guests came to hear about the DRI story this last year. Students gave moving testimonials and the DRI Bell Pepper Handbell Choir performed. Not only does the evening raise awareness for DRI, but it also raises much-appreciated funding for our programs. Although Jordan is now in college, she and her family plan to carry on this wonderful tradition. Disability Resources is so grateful for supporters like the Francis family.

Help support Disability Resources’ outstanding work with developmentally disabled individuals. Come join us for a fabulous dinner, learn more about DRI, and enjoy a special presentation by the DRI Handbell Choir.
